Chi-Raq (2015) is like a “Nyeri Saga” movie
In Kenya last year, the women in Nyeri went up in arms alleging their men are too addicted to booze and not doing their husband duties at home. Protests took place such that even President Kenyatta took notice. Alcohol free zones were set up. Driving times (“Mututho hours”) in whole country were implemented. The issue was serious.
In the US, in the last year gun violence got so bad the communities revolted. The whole world was shocked seeing videos of African Americans getting shot or killed by Police. Protests were made to such an extent President Obama took notice and gave an executive order in a move to prevent future gun violence.
Chi-Raq (2015) is a musical drama movie made by Spike lee about gang violence in the city of Chicago, where the wives of the gun leaders and members refuse to have sex with the men after the violence gets out of hand, the statistics indicate it is worse than Iraq! Hence the name Chi-Raq. It might have looked like a joke but after checking out what happened in real life in Nyeri – this movie could easily have happened.
Rated 8 out of 10 for being so funny and ridiculous, and at the same time realistic.
