Directed by Fede Alvarez the guy who made 2013’s Evil Dead, Don’t Breath tells the story of three teenagers who invade a blind guy’s house to steal some cash only to learn that the blind man is not as helpless as they think.
Now this movie may not classify as a straight up scary horror movie to some as it does not involve possession, witches or a slasher type of movie but it is a well done thriller which keeps you at the edge of your seat from start to finish and may be one of the best movies released this year.
Rocky: “Wait, is he blind?”
Alex: “That’s really fucked up to rob a blind guy, isn’t it?”
Money: “Just because he’s blind don’t mean he’s a saint, bro. It’s going to be a piece of cake.”
With horror films released this year like The Conjuring 2, lights out or ouija 2, Alvarez injects new life to the horror genre with this film as it offers a fresh new take which we usually don’t see from horror films, not only does this film not have demons or psychopaths as expected in these types of movies, it has real relate-able characters,a plot with an unexpected twist which in turn adds up to a great movie which will satisfy both horror and non horror fans alike.
Alvarez’s frequent Collaborator Jane levy delivers a great performance as always along with the other casts but Scott Lang is the one who shines as the blind man whose house is broken into (proving that the guys there at fox should consider him for cable in Deadpool 2, just saying 😉
Adored by fans and critics alike and also proving to be one of the sleeper hits this year at the box office with 147 million dollars gross worldwide, Don’t Breath offers a fresh new take to the horror genre with great pacing and outstanding work from Fede Alvarez making it one of the standout films this year.
