Who is the Hollywood Actor of the Year 2015?

Each year we are presented with new and familiar faces on our screens. Some are so familiar with their initial hit movies that we always remember them by their previous hit movie name instead of their real names, and that in itself is a great feat or more so a felony as it lacks consistency since ideally we should remember their new name in the current movie or at the very least associate the actor with more than one great movie.

Daniel Radcliffe as Igor?

Daniel Radcliffe does a fantastic job as Igor in Victor Frakenstein but the excruciating low point in the movie for him – and arguably the funniest part for the audience – was when almost everyone in the cinema exclaimed: That’s harry porter!

So in relation to that aspect, we are setting the standard a bit higher. The actor of the year must be so much into the scene that we completely forget WHO he is in real life or in previous movie roles, and yet we should be looking at his very face, hear his voice, and still get soo taken into his new movie role that we get soaked into the new personality, embrace his character so completely that we forget entirely his previous acting record.

Leonardo Di Caprio or Vin Diesel?

Only barely to miss the cut is Leonardo Di Caprio. He is fantastic in the new movie The Revenant (2015) , but he misses out when he stares at us (the screen) a bit too long to remind us of his soulful stares in the Great Gatsby.

Vin Diesel is a fan favorite for most people as seen in the Fast and the Furious 7. His performance was excellent even though it was overshadowed – albeit intentionally – by the edited appearance of the late Paul Walker. So Vin could easily have won it, but since he didn’t win to become the main focus of the movie, we also sadly rule him out.

Chris Pratt?

Jurassic Park was more about Chris Pratt as it was about Dinosaurs. His character in Her(2013), Guardians of the Galaxy(2014) and Jurassic World(2015) are all so different, believable and so well executed that we are tempted to give him Actor of the Year. However, one thing we feel is that this year he lacked the emotional connection with his fellow characters to truly make him the winner. For instance in Jurassic World he doesn’t really demonstrate a believable bonding with Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) as we would have expected. Plus, the T-rex won the movie battle – not Chris and that cost him the Actor of the year award. It could have gone to the T-rex but we have to give it humans only 🙂

In light of these heavyweight predecessors, you might be inclined to think that a heavyweight actor is going to win actor of the year 2015. In fact, its a little known guy, who almost single-handedly made a movie such a massive hit it was for some time the highest grossing movie of 2015.

To get our actor of the year, we toss out all the above filters and preconceptions out of the window and look for one aspect – the one actor who captivated audiences the most in 2015!

Our actor of the year, 2015 is…..

Hollywood Actor of the Year 2015 is…

Nicholas Hoult

acting as NUX in Mad Max Fury Road (2015)

Mad Max Nux
Mad Max Nux

About the movie: Years after the collapse of civilization, the tyrannical Immortan Joe enslaves apocalypse survivors inside the desert fortress the Citadel. When the warrior Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron) leads the despot’s five wives in a daring escape, she forges an alliance with Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy), a loner and former captive. Fortified in the massive, armored truck the War Rig, they try to outrun the ruthless warlord and his henchmen in a deadly high-speed chase through the Wasteland.

Nicholas Hoult role: Nux is one of the war boys – part of a cult of the V8 – who grow up as mechanics and eventually become drivers. Becoming a machine is all they want so he even has an engine ta-toed on his chest. When you first see Nux, he is going through a blood transfusion. When he sees the escape of the five wives as a big opportunity to go out in historic fashion.

Why he wins: Nux is so interesting. He is so innocent and has great delivery of quotes: “He looked at me!!!He looked at me!!!” He is so insanely hyped up that you actually become excited just by watching him. “I live, i die, i live again!” This guy OVERSHADOWS the main character of the movie (Mad Max – Tom Hardy) through his crazy antics and naivety, and the audience loves him for it. You could hear the laughter and sense emotion in the theater whenever Nux showed up.

He gets the best quotes of the movie “Oh what a day! What a lovely day!” – and he makes you believe his crazy nature and you can empathize his evolution and understanding of the new realities of life throughout his dramatic action adventure.

Not to be cruel but Tom Hardy was such a letdown as Max – especially for those of us who watched the old mad max starring Mel Gibson – because he was so disappointing in demonstrating his savagery, until fortunately for the movie, his performance is rescued by the insanely ridiculous Nux.

Heath Ledger as the Joker

In all this craziness, in a title called “Mad” Max, with everyone certifiably crazy, to be the craziest guy in the movie and pull it off magnificently – almost as good a performance of a crazy character as was put forth by the late Heath Ledger as Joker in Batman – The Dark Knight.

It is for that single reason that we crown Nicholas Hoult who plays Nux in Mad Max Fury Road(2015) as

Nicholas Hoult – Hollywood actor of the year, 2015.
