Sia is asking you to listen.
Sia’s newest album released in January 2016 called This is Acting is an invitation to listen. The album is not masquerading as a party album but as a motivational acoustic. Sia has a powerful voice, and it is even more powerful when she is belting out lyrics that are empowering. I suggest that when you listen to this album, do so in a quiet room and just listen. Allow your ears to listen carefully to the words she is singing and allow your mind to interpret their meaning. Better yet, listen to the whole album with your headphones on and I guarantee you by the end of the last song, you will have enough courage to conquer the world.
The whole album is an anthology of short stories that when put together create a much larger story. The first song off her 7th studio album is called “Bird set free” and it sets the tone for the whole album. To say that This is Acting is an empowering album would be a gross understatement. The first song which starts with enticing piano notes is a story, a love story about Sia and her music. As she sings these lyrics,
“And I don’t care if I sing off key
I find myself in my melodies
I sing for love, I sing for me
I shout it out like a bird set free.”
you truly start to comprehend her love for music. With this song, she encourages anyone else who loves what they do to just keep doing what they love by expressing her own love for music. The second song titled “Alive” is just as powerful as the first. The chorus is nothing but a repetition of the phrase “I’m alive” and there is such power in the way she sings it. The most haunting part of this song comes in the third minute and 50th second when all the background music is barely there, and it is just her voice screaming “I’m alive.” Beautiful! I can’t get over that part; it’s just…bellissimo!
Songs from the album that stand out. (I’m tempted to just write the whole album).
- “Bird Set Free.”
- “Broken Glass.”
