The Exorcism of Molly Hartley

Three girls on a night out. Drinks flowing. You can tell it is the birthday for one of them. Then she meets a guy, get a bit too close with a dance club chic and all of a sudden things are uncomfortable. But how can this be a horror?

Turns out her name is Molly Hartley and she was turning 24, and the party was 6 years, 6 months 6 days after turning 18 – the day she was possessed.  That is such a predictable story but here it is introduced slowly and explained in soft tones, as if expecting the audience not to believe it, introducing us to a priest who failed a previous exorcism and is now the last chance in redeeming Molly from her possession.

The movie tries to be dramatic by situating the horror in a mental hospital though it doesn’t give much airtime to the other mental patients – something that would definitely have made it as good as suicide squad.  The devil makes an appearance but trust me, its not as dramatic as you would expect from the devil himself….then again if you are one to get scared easily this one might jar your nerves.

A horror you can watch, The Exorcism of Molly Hartley is less of a horror movie and more of a drama mystery thriller.

Rated 5 out of 10
